Changes at SocialistWorker.org

January 14, 2011

We've added some new features that we hope will make our site more useful.

YOU'LL FIND some changes at SocialistWorker.org today. Some are minor, some are more substantial, but all are aimed at making our Web site easier for our regular readers to find the most important news and analysis of the week--and the information and ideas you want to read.

Most obviously, we published a "Weekend Edition" of SocialistWorker.org today--and we'll continue doing so every Friday.

On Monday through Thursdays, you'll find the usual new articles for that day featured at the top of the home page. But on Friday, we'll publish a digest that collects the most important news and opinion of the week--so you'll get another chance to read stories you may have missed earlier and focus in more depth on an important political issue.

We'll also introduce some Friday-only features. One is "From the Archives"--a feature article from the 30-plus years of Socialist Worker newspaper and its rich record of what socialists have been saying and doing. Another is "History of Our Movement"--a series of articles on the U.S. working-class movement, revived from one published in Socialist Worker in the early 1990s. We'll also be featuring articles on Marxism and the Marxist Tradition.

New features at SocialistWorker.org

You'll also find the rest of the home page reorganized to help you find important features. One important change here is "Movement News"--a section on the right side of the home page that will collect the reports SocialistWorker.org publishes on labor and other struggles and movements.

These articles are an important part of SocialistWorker.org, even if they are typically shorter and narrower in focus--because SocialistWorker.org is one of the only places where you can read about local activism and organizing. It's a sad reality that when struggles do take place locally, they don't always get the attention they should nationally so that people around the country can learn about them and what lessons can be drawn from them. We're hoping a more prominent place for Movement News will get more readers for these important reports from the struggle.

Also, we've collected some of SocialistWorker.org's longer feature articles on Marxism and the Marxist tradition on its own home page, named "Marx Matters."

New features at SocialistWorker.org

We hope this page will be place to go for people who want to learn in depth about what socialists of the past have had to say about society and the struggle to change it--and the debates about those ideas today. "Marx Matters" will feature articles for people who what to learn the ABCs of socialism and the Marxist tradition--but it also aims to be a forum for ideas and discussions that develop that tradition in a new century.

We hope these changes at SocialistWorker.org help readers find more of the articles they want--and we look forward to growing throughout the year. If you have suggestions about the Web site, drop us a line. In the meanwhile, here's to a new year of struggle.
