A retraction

November 21, 2013

SOCIALISTWORKER.ORG has removed from our website a recent article, headlined "From the margin to the center," about a Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) conference held at Stanford University in late October. The report was written by a conference participant and Palestine solidarity activist with the intention of letting other activists know about SJP's work in advancing the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement and its discussions about broader strategies for the movement.

However, our contributor violated SJP's media policy, including reporting on closed sessions during the conference, which organizers intended to be focused on "movement-building and education," as they wrote to us. In addition, speakers at the conference's opening plenary believe the report mischaracterized their speeches with "sweeping and vague statements" attributed to them that, they say, risk harming their movement efforts.

We are sorry for these errors and reaffirm our solidarity with the struggle for the liberation of Palestine, and organizations engaged in that struggle, such as Students for Justice in Palestine.
